Jaguar Mk1 & Mk2 Body Repair

We are currently tackling the structural repairs, welding and fabrication due to rust in a Jaguar Mk1. Theses repairs are almost identical to the work that we have carried out on our Coombs modified MK2 Jaguar.

With the car on the ramp it was possible to carry out a full inspection and assement of the work required. Like all Mk1 & Mk2 Jaguars, the rust usally effects the same areas. We observed that the front cross member and crows feet would need replacement. Inner and outer sills will also need to be replaced, together with all four jacking points and the two rear spring hangers. All four doors will require attention as will the boot.

The first job was to remove the front sub frame on the Jaguar Mk1. Following removal the front cross member and crows feet were cut out. You will note from the pictures that this Jaguar Mk1 has also suffered with corrosion of the front chassis rails and more corrosion in the lower inner wheel arch. With all corrosion cut out new repair sections were fabricated prior to the new cross member and crows feet being fitted.

Boot lid repair Jaguar MK1 & Mk2

The bottom of the boot lid has suffered on the Jaguar Mk1. The effected area was cut out. The inner frame was also found to be rotten. We removed the effected area and fabricated a new inner frame section using a shirker and stretcher. A new outer skin section was then fabricated and welded into place. The procedure can be used for the Mk2 Jaguar.

Aston Martin DB5 body repairs

Aston Martin DB5 body repairs

We are currently repairing and fabricating body and chassis sections on a 1965 DB5 Aston Martin.

Initially it seemed that the two front jacking points would need replacing due to corrosion. There was also sings of the outer sills being damaged as the car had been jacked up on the jacking point and pushed up the outer aluminum sills.

The inner aluminum wheel arch covers are also being fabricated replaced and sealed with rubber rather than the water absorbing material originally used.

Once the two front jacking points were removed further areas of corrosion were noted. The floor section above the jacking points needed replacement. The inner sills were also in need of attention as was one of the steel tubes that take the wiring through the sill. Once the outer aluminum sills were removed repairs to the steel inner sills could be carried out. This entailed folding new repair sections from sheet steel and welding into place. After the inner sill repairs had been completed. We then folded new outer sills in aluminum sheet. These were then tig welded into position.

The off side rear of the DB5 needed attention around the radius arms. Once the triangular plate in the inner wheel arch was removed it was noted that the strengthening section was corroded. This was then fabricated and welded into position before the new outer section was welded into place.

Once the metal work and welding repairs have been completed it is our intention to return this DB5 Aston Martin back to its original colour of Californian Sage Green. At the moment it is finished. In Caribbean Blue, which is an Aston Martin, colour used on the DB5 but not the correct colour for this car.

Aston Martin DB5 body repairs ready for Goodwood

We will continue to post images and write an account of the paintwork as the Aston Martin DB5 body repairs progress. We would like to have the Aston Martin painted in time for our stand at the 2011 Goodwood Revival.

We would be pleased to see you on our stand and explain the work carried out in greater detail. If you own an Aston Martin or indeed anther mark, we would be delighted to discuss your restoration and paintwork requirements.
